Investigating the Factors Affecting the Reconstruction of the Physical Space of Coastal Rural Settlements in Chabahar County

Abstract

Rural settlement reconstruction constitutes a dynamic and multidimensional process that, in the wake of destruction, displacement, or alterations to physical structures, demands critical reassessment and strategic re-planning. The present study seeks to identify and analyze the factors influencing the physical-spatial reconstruction of coastal rural settlements in Chabahar County. This research was applied in terms of objective and descriptive-analytical in method with a quantitative approach. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire, and the statistical population consisted of households residing in the coastal villages of Chabahar County. Employing Cochran's formula and quota sampling, a total of 320 households were selected as the sample. The Analytic Network Process (ANP) was utilized for data analysis to determine the significance and weight of the influencing factors. The analytical results revealed that five principal factors exert the greatest influence on the physical-spatial reconstruction of coastal rural settlements. Improvement of the village fabric (weight: 0.277) emerged as the most critical factor, pertaining to the renovation of physical structures and the enhancement of residential environmental quality. Preservation of the village landscape (0.273) was found to play a vital role in sustaining the visual identity and cultural landscape of the settlements. Development of the road network (0.254), aimed at improving intra-village accessibility and connectivity with surrounding areas, ranked third in importance. Furthermore, enhancement of housing quality (0.235) and infrastructure development (0.230), encompassing water, electricity, sewage systems, and communication routes, were identified as additional priority factors affecting the physical reconstruction of the settlements. These results can provide a suitable basis for formulating future policies and plans in the area of rural settlement reconstruction in coastal regions.
Network analysis process was used to investigate and identify these factors and determine their quantity and importance. The results showed that improving the texture of the village by weight (0.277), maintaining the village landscape (0.273), developing the road network (0.254), increasing the quality of housing (0.235) and developing infrastructure (230. 0) The most important factors affecting the reconstruction of the physical space of coastal rural settlements in Chabahar township.

Highlights

- In order to investigate the effective factors on the reconstruction of the physical space of the coastal settlements of Chabahar county, the process of network analysis (ANP) has been used.

- The main indicators examined in this study included enhancement of housing quality, infrastructure development, preservation of the village landscape, improvement of the village fabric, and development of the road network.
